Synthetic mica powder -- What is it?

Synthetic mica powders main ingredient is synthetic fluorphlogopite which is produced under laboratory conditions.

When coated with colourants and oxides, these pigments produce an ultra-bright lustre and extreme vivid colours. Also their particles often do not have jagged edges which may improve skin feel in finished cosmetic products.

Because it is made in a laboratory synthetic mica does not contain any natural mica powder which is ideal if you want to avoid their use, especially due to ethical concerns concerning the mining of natural mica.
