Zinc Oxide is an oxidised form of zinc that is derived from the naturally occurring mineral zincite. It is a free flowing white powder used in cosmetic formulations such as:
1) Sunscreen – Zinc is known for its ability to block UVA and UVB rays and is therefore added to sunscreen formulations as a UV filter.
2) Antimicrobial – Zinc oxide is also known for its antimicrobial properties and is used widely in calamine lotion, antiseptic ointments, diaper/nappy rash ointments and many other products.
3) Astringent/Great for oily skin – Zinc oxide prevents oil formation by absorbing the oil on the surface of the skin.
